Slowly pour in the milk and oil while whisking gently.

Sift the flour into the bowl and whisk faster until it’s totally smooth.

Slice the vanilla pod open lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and stir them into the mixture for a flavor boost.

Pour the mixture into a round cake pan. Bake for about 40 minutes. To see if it’s done, stick a knife in and check: clean knife means it’s ready.
