Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into cubes. Boil or steam them for about 15-20 minutes, or until soft. Drain and mash them with cream. Add some salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if you'd like. Set aside.

Slice up the onion and garlic, then sauté them in olive oil in a pan. Toss in the ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook it through until browned. For extra flavor, you can sprinkle in paprika, herbs, or a bit of tomato sauce.

Take an ovenproof dish and spread the cooked beef mixture across the bottom. Add the sweet potato mash on top and cover everything with grated cheese.

Heat your oven to 180°C. Bake the dish for 20-25 minutes until the cheese on top melts and turns golden. You can use the grill for a few minutes at the end to get a darker crust.
